How will be the post-Covid 19 world looks like?

New Year’s Eve 2020 – welcoming the New Year with open arms, making new resolutions and promising ourselves to keep these resolutions alive even after three months into the year. Who would have thought that this year will bring something entirely unexpected in our lives? Something that will put a halt to our normal lives; something that would make us contemplate every decision we ever made or something that will make us realise how much we took everything for granted.

Welcome to a world of a global pandemic, a place where masks are compulsory. Washing hands every 30 minutes and sanitising everything from doorknobs to fruits bought from the market, has almost become a ‘normal’ for us here.  It has altered our mental, physical as well as spiritual state of being.

After staying in repetitive lockdowns, leaving houses for a limited period and spending ample time with ourselves, we are now slowly coming out of this pandemic. This period has revolutionised the world around us. Thinking about it, I sometimes wonder how the post-Covid world would look like, once we get over with it.

Work from Home:

This pandemic has popularised work from home environment. Many prestigious companies like Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter have decided to provide this work from home option to their employees permanently. This would save a lot of effort and unnecessary hassle.  Employees would be able to save on travelling time that would result in improved productivity.   Consequently, companies can avoid maintaining upscale offices.

However, on the other hand, a few people miss the social interaction which is a vital part of human nature, missing out on the routines and the joy of getting home from work to relax for the rest of the day.

The post-Covid world may blend the fine lines of work and play that may result in burnouts.

Family Relations:

This period of crisis has in some way or the other brought us close to our families. We have come to value each other more and have realised the need to appreciate the ones who have been our support at all times. Coming out of Covid, we will continue to be closer to our loved ones and cherish the true happiness of life.

Contradictory to this, there are ruined relationships and marriages because of the diminishing personal space. Coming out of this pandemic we might see a lot of families falling apart as well, especially those who seemed to have lost all the freedom to their own space as well as time being stuck at home with others.

Health and Fitness:

Going to the gym for hours and working out at least five days a week seemed to be the idea of fitness in pre-Covid times. However, with being indoors more and getting limited time to go out, has substituted gyms with online classes and cardio with a light run or walk in the neighbourhood.

As many people have found a healthy balance between eating healthy foods at home and taking walks with their dogs more rewarding than doing extensive workouts in the gym; we can expect lesser gym subscriptions in the post-pandemic world.

As every coin has two sides, so does this pandemic. It has taught us a lot of lessons that we could have never learnt without it. It has made people more aware and conscious of themselves but has also on the contrary created a lot of economic, social and mental instabilities in our lives.

However, as hope is the ultimate anchor, we are holding onto the pros of the lockdown and working to create a better world for us, a world where we will appreciate the ‘now’ and become a support for each other.

Which is more superior: Religion or humanity?

Religion and humanity have always been entwined with one another, laced in a beautiful yet cryptic mess with their relationship continuously being restructured by society. Both exist in the mind, soul and heart of every individual, weaving webs of connection across the globe and fusing together communities. Sometimes, it can be deemed as too difficult to isolate the two concepts of humanity and religion. Discovering where one concept ends and the other begins is considered confusing, thus bringing the question of ‘is religion or humanity more superior’ to light.                                            Courtesy : Forbes.com Only once you start to develop your understanding of the meaning behind the two notions of human interaction, do you begin to realise that humanity is far more superior to religion. Being the basis of society, humanity is the framework of how we, as humans,...

Secularism vs communalism

Secularism and Communalism are the two different social ideologies. In simple words, the former one stands with the belief that religion should not influence or be involved in the organization of society, education, government, etc.   On the other hand,   the attempts to construct religious or ethnic identity, incite strife among people from different communities, and to stimulate communal violence between those groups, comes under the definition of communalism. The world has over 200 countries as a secular state, among which China, India, United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, South Africa, South and North Korea, Iraq, Poland, Sri Lanka,  are the most popular ones. Even though Hindu nationalists did not participate in the Constituent Assembly to draft the country’s constitution, Hindu traditionalists were all present in the making of the constitution. There was a lot of pressure on Nehru and B. R. Ambed...
